The Upper Sandusky Community Library welcomes Jim and Diane Hogan at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6 for Wood ‘N It Be Fun. They’ll show participants how to sand and paint a unique wood craft. Attendees should wear old clothes or bring an apron to enjoy this chance to celebrate the holiday season with a creative painting project. Registration begins on Nov. 27 and is required. This program is intended for adults.

Get your family outside to stretch their legs, read a book, and solve a puzzle with Coded StoryWalk®. 

The book for December is “The Best Parts of Christmas” by Bethanie Deeney Murguia. “A boy who really loves his Christmas tree finds a way to preserve its spirit year-round in this sweet and child-friendly holiday story.”

The Dec. 14, 2023 meeting of the Upper Sandusky Community Library Board of Trustees has been cancelled due to a lack of business. The next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 11, 2024. 

STEAMpunks: Winter Faire

Are you ready to return to the Winter Faire for another frosty winter adventure? Join Youth Services Specialist Lisa Andres at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11 in the library’s large meeting room. Students will be whisked away on an enchanting escape room journey that will captivate your imagination and get you in the Christmas spirit! You'll meet magical and puzzling characters and help them as they aid the forest Wisp in time for the Winter Faire. Can you complete this chilly challenge? Come ready to test your skills and eat some pizza! STEAMpunks is intended for students in grades 6-12.

Craft Party: Miniature Christmas Tree

Join Rachel Keirns-Moore and a special guest for Craft Party at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14. Guest instructor Darlene Perricone will show the group how to create a miniature Christmas tree. Registration is required and begins Monday, Dec. 4. Sign up at the library or call 419-294-1345 to reserve a spot. Space is limited. Adults only, please. Got lunch plans? Then prepare a special dish and join Cheryl Lyon for Lunch Bunch. Come to Lunch Bunch on Monday, Dec. 18 at 12:00 p.m. in the library’s large meeting room for a delicious holiday potluck and optional $5 gift exchange. Bring a copy of the recipe – and your Christmas spirit – to share with the group. Then get ready to discuss cooking, baking, recipes, and more.

Author Visit: Richard Cowdrey

Richard Cowdrey, The New York Times bestselling illustrator, artist, and author, will be visiting Upper Sandusky Community Library at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Cowdrey, originally from Cincinnati, wrote “Fiona the Hippo,” a children’s book about the famous hippo at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens. He also illustrated the Marley picture books as well as a series of religious picture books. Paragraphs Bookstore, an independent bookstore based in Mount Vernon, will have copies of Cowdrey’s available for purchase at the event.

Puzzle Contest

As January's chill makes itself known, we return to one of our favorite indoor pastimes: puzzles! 

Join Cheryl as she takes your jigsaw skills to the next level with puzzle contests on Saturday, Jan. 13 and 20. Both will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Upper Sandusky Community Library's large meeting room. Teams of two will test their puzzling prowess by attempting to place the most pieces of a 500-piece puzzle in two hours. All the puzzles will be the same to even the playing field. After the two-hour time limit, a grand prize will be awarded.
