If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly fall project, then swing by the Upper Sandusky Community Library to take part in a Pumpkin Decorating Contest!

The contest kicks off October 18. Simply pick up a pumpkin in the library’s front vestibule, take it home, and start decorating. There will be a limited number of pumpkins available for the contest, so make sure to get yours early. Carved jack-o-lanterns are not allowed.

Trail of Terror

If you’re in the Halloween mood and ready to send shivers down your spine, then sign up for Upper Sandusky Community Library’s Trail of Terror: Chilling Tales from History and Urban Legend.

Tour host Ashlie Payton will captivate you with her spine-tingling, hair-raising, and eerie stories from the past. The walking ghost tour, which takes place on Saturday, October 16, will wind through the wooded trails at Harrison-Smith Park with tales told by local storytellers.

Grab-N-Go Meals

Beginning Monday, October 4, Grab-N-Go Meals will be available at the Upper Sandusky Community Library for youth up to age 18.

For the 2021-2022 school year, libraries are participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to provide afterschool meals for children and teens. Children’s Hunger Alliance helps sponsor CACFP and has partnered with the library to provide services needed to ensure children receive a healthy meal after school. Youth can visit USCL from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to pick up a Grab-N-Go Meal.

Do you know who Rube Goldberg is? If not, Upper Sandusky Community Library’s STEAMpunks have you covered!

Join Youth Services Specialist Lisa Andres at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, November 1 as she introduces you to Rube Goldberg: cartoonist, inventor, and the only person listed in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as an adjective. After a little background, it’ll be your turn to create your very own Rube Goldberg Machine that is able to ring a bell. The team whose contraption works continuously longer ringing the bell will win. All items will be supplied for the program.

Help celebrate the fun of reading and walking during StoryWalk® Week!

StoryWalk® Week will take place November 15-19. Come to the Upper Sandusky Community Library to pick up a Coded StoryWalk® worksheet and read this month’s book, The Best Thanksgiving Ever! As you walk from business to business, each page will be marked with a letter that should be written on the worksheet. When you finish the story, you will have spelled out a special message. Make sure to return to the library to receive a special prize and a to-go craft.

Taste of the Town: Tamales

Have you ever wondered how to make tamales? Sample Taste of the Town and find out for yourself.

Taste of the Town is a new adult cooking program hosted by the Upper Sandusky Community Library. This month, program leader Patti Davidson will teach you how to make tamales, a traditional Mesoamerican dish made of masa, steamed in a corn or banana leaf, and filled with meats, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, or chilies.
