Common Readers Everyone is welcome to join Krystal and the Common Readers Book Club on November 14th at 6:30 p.m. as they discuss this month's feature book, The Woman They Could Not Silence by Kate Moore. As the clash between the states comes to a boil, Elizabeth Packard, housewife and mother of six, is facing her own battle. Her husband, increasingly threatened by Elizabeth's intellect, independence, and unwillingness to stifle her own thoughts, has her committed to an insane asylum. The horrific conditions are overseen by a man who will prove to be even more dangerous to Elizabeth than her husband. Inside, Elizabeth discovers she is not the only sane woman confined to the institution. No one is willing to fight for their freedom and they cannot possibly fight for themselves. But Elizabeth is about to discover that the merit of losing everything is that you then have nothing to lose... The Cold Creek Highway stretches close to five hundred miles through rugged wilderness. For decades, young women traveling the road have gone missing and no killer or abductor has ever been brought to justice. To escape a controlling uncle, orphaned Hailey vanishes into the mountainous terrain, hoping everyone will believe she’s left town. Rumors spread that she was taken by the highway killer— who’s claimed another victim over the summer. One year later, Beth Chevalier arrives in Cold Creek, where her sister Amber lived—and where she was murdered. But Beth’s search for answers puts a target on her back—and threatens to reveal the truth behind Hailey’s disappearance… Share your thoughts about the thriller genre on Wednesday, November 15th at 6:30 p.m. (due to the Thanksgiving holiday) in USCL's large meeting room.
