Do you think you have what it takes to win The Amazing Library Race? All ages are invited to register and find out! On Saturday, June 28th gather your team of three to six people (you must have at least one adult) and meet at 9:45 a.m. in USCL’s back yard. When the race begins, your team will race around town completing challenges and puzzles. When you have completed all the tasks, race back to the library. If you are the first team to complete all your tasks successfully, you will win four tickets to Zoombezi Bay! Register your team online, by phone, or in person starting June 16th.
Color Your Hello Summer Party School’s out and it’s time to celebrate and Miss Lisa has just the way to do it! If you love to read and love the outdoors, go on a Storywalk! In the windows downtown this month you’ll read the story of some very bored monkeys. When five little monkeys ask for something to do, cleaning the house for Grandma Bessie's visit isn't exactly what they had in mind. But leave it to those mischievous monkeys to find a way to make housework fun . . . and messy! To begin your walk, get a Coded Storywalk sheet by the front desk and read the first page of the book in the library’s front window. Write down the code letter then head downtown to continue the story. Your next stop will be listed on the storyboard. When you finish the story, bring your completed sheet back to the library for a prize! Have you ever wanted to sit inside a firetruck? Here’s your chance on Monday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. in USCL’s backyard. nd You’ll get to see a big rig up close and learn about the important role these vehicles play in our community. USCL is inviting everyone and their pets and fur babies to the library’s backyard on Wednesday, June 11 at 10:00 a.m. for a fun and furry morning meet and greet. th You’ll be able to share stories and facts about your pet with Miss Jill and meet many other animals and their owners as well. Lunch Bunch Mary Kay Andrews’ Broccoli Salad 2 (12 oz.) bags broccoli florets ¾ cup dried sweetened cranberries ½ cup pecans, toasted ½ cup shelled, roasted and salted sunflower seeds ½ cup diced red onion 2 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled 1 cup mayonnaise 3 Tbsp. sugar Grated zest and juice of 1 lemon 1 Tbsp. rice vinegar 1 ½ tsp. sea salt Freshly ground pepper Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Add the broccoli and cook for 30 seconds. Drain and plunge into an ice water bath to stop cooking. Drain again, and pat dry with paper towels. Combine the broccoli, cranberries, pecans, onion sunflower seeds, and bacon in a large serving bowl. Whisk together the mayonnaise, sugar, lemon zest and juice, vinegar, poppy seeds and salt and pepper to taste in a small bowl. Pour the dressing over the broccoli mixture and toss to coat well. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Here’s a craft that’s just in time for summer celebrations! All the supplies and the snacks are provided so grab a friends and take a crafting time out!
