Navi- gating these changes has been Adult Program Coordinator, Cheryl Lyon. An employee of the Upper Sandusky Communi- ty Library for over 27 years, Cheryl’s focus shifted to Adult Programs in 2018. These monthly events have drawn many to explore resources that are available locally and at the library. “I love book- ing interesting individuals to do a program that is educational,” says Cheryl. One of her most memorable programs was the “Landing on the Moon Party” that had over 100 people in attendance. “I really enjoy in person programs that the public enjoys coming to!” Unfortunately, last year saw the necessity of lim- iting such gatherings and set the library staff on a new course to find ways to do their part in keeping the community connected. Thus, the “Swap style”, “Take and Makes”, and virtual productions have kept programming for all departments available to our patrons. Cheryl’s popular “What’s Cookin’?” program has adapted by going virtual on USCL’s Face- book page, with featured recipes being posted online and printed in this newsletter monthly. Each month has been a new challenge that has been met with great success due to the loyalty of our patronage and a little creative thinking! In October, for example, Cheryl filled the foyer with pumpkins and invited people to decorate them in creatives ways to share with the public. “I really did enjoy the Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Our patrons looked forward to coming in to see the display.” From “Take and Makes” to a Winter Reading Program that you can sign up for online and read books entirely through our Libby and Hoopla Apps, programs from USCL may look a little dif- ferently but their goal is still the same; to unite our commu- nity through a love of reading and learning. Although the reintroduction of in-person programming may still be on hold, Cheryl says she looks forward to being able to offer events like the Clothing Swap and enjoying a meal with the Cookbook Discussion Group. Until then, Cheryl and the USCL staff will continue to find innovative ways to deliver relevant and enjoyable programs to you each month. It’s what we love to do!
