Top cakes with a tiny dollop of sour cream, a sprinkle of paprika and minced chives. Cheryl says... We’re full of holiday spirit at USCL and we invite you to celebrate the season with us! This year, we are showcasing the works of C.S. Lewis and his classic book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. You can visit The Wyandot County Museum to see our Narnia-themed Christmas tree and check out our Aslan-themed light pole decoration uptown. Then, step through the wardrobe as you delight in our The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe float in the Christmas parade on December 7th. You’ll meet the Pevensie children, the White Witch, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, Mr. Tumnus and more. Happy Holidays from USCL! Did you know... From age 16 onward, Lewis often found himself imagining “a Faun carrying an umbrella and parcels in a snowy wood.” According to his short essay It All Began With A Picture, the image continued to come to him until, at age 40, he said to himself, “Let's try to make a story about it.”

Go walking in a winter wonderland this December when you follow this month's storybook page by page through uptown. Read about a family that is having trouble getting its act together on December 23rd in The Night Before the Night Before Christmas by Natasha Wing. You’ll follow the rhythms and meter of the classic Christmas poem with an entirely new twist! To start your walk, stop at the front desk and pick up a Coded Tales sheet. As you walk from business to business, be sure to write down the code letter located at each stop. When you finish the story, you should have spelled out a special message that you can bring back to the library's front desk to receive a prize! You can also enjoy our Storywalk at Stepping Stones Park to read about The Bear and the Star by Lola M. Schaefer On a cold winter morning, Bear welcomes a new star to the sky and searches for the perfect tree—a majestic evergreen—under which to host a celebration for everyone to enjoy. Almost as if by magic, guests start to arrive. They are feathered, furry, scaled—on the wing, on four paws, on two feet. They are young and old. They bring gifts. They bring love. They bring hope for peace. Every Thursday that school is in session, kids of all ages are invited to attend That Thursday Thing from 3:00-4:00. Each week, the children’s and youth department team up to host games and activities that encourage kids to interact in positive and creative ways with each other and our staff.
