StoryWalk®

Get your family outside to stretch their legs and read a book with StoryWalk®.

StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children - and adults - to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. A StoryWalk® is a book that has been taken apart and presented page by page on a trail, bike path, or in store windows to promote reading and exercise. StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library. Miss Jill and the Upper Sandusky Community Library initially brought the concept to the community in July 2020 and have presented a new StoryWalk® each month. A second StoryWalk® was established at Stepping Stones Park in April 2024.

The Coded StoryWalk® features a new book each month. Before you begin your walk, stop by the library’s front desk and pick up a Coded Tales worksheet. As you walk from business to business, each page will be marked with a letter that should be written on the worksheet. When you finish the story, you will have spelled out a special message that you can return to the library to receive a prize.

The Coded StoryWalk® begins at the library and continues in the windows of the following businesses: A Cut Above, Corner Inn, SURGE, Neumeister’s Candy Shoppe, A.J.’s Heavenly Pizza, Johnson Orthodontics, D's Cuts, Seitz Financial Services, Community First Bank, First Citizens National Bank, Woven Yoga, Woods’ Antiques N More, Richardson Flower, and Brick Alley Market.

The new StoryWalk® at Stepping Stones officially debuted with a ribbon cutting event on June 3, 2024. According to Miss Jill, "Upper Sandusky has beautiful parks and the library felt the StoryWalk®️ would be a great addition." Since its installation, the StoryWalk® at Stepping Stones has been a big success as kids and adults enjoy the beauty of the park while reading a story at the same time.

Visitors entering Stepping Stones Park can begin the StoryWalk® at the book display in front of the main gazebo. From there, you will follow the path to the right in a counterclockwise route. Page numbers are located in the top right hand corner of the display to easily identify the path to follow. Continue walking around the first circle, reading each frame to hear the whole story.
